Sambo is a Russian martial art and combat sport. It originated from the SFSR in the Soviet Union and is an acronym of samozashchita bez oruzhiya, which literally translates as "self-defence without weapons". It is a relatively modern art, with its development beginning in the early 1920s by the Soviet NKVD and Red Army to improve the hand-to-hand combat abilities of its military. It was designed to be a merger of the most effective striking, grappling, throwing, and takedown techniques of other martial arts, such as Wrestling, Judo, Karate, Japanese Jui Jitsu, and Thai Boxing. This style is a great choice for self defense.

We offer classes in Sport (Jacket Grappling/Wrestling) and Combat (Striking & Grappling) Sambo under the governing bodies ‘British Sambo Federation - BSF’ and ‘Federation of International Associations of Sambo - FIAS’.

Lethwei is the national sport and ancient martial art of Myanmar (Burma), also known as Burmese Bare Knuckle Boxing due to the fact that it only allows the use of hand warps/bandages during competition. It is regularly referred to as the ‘art of 9 limbs’ as it allows the use of the head, 2 elbows, 2 fists, 2 knees, and 2 feet/shins for striking. Lethwei allows the use of striking, grappling, throwing, and takedown techniques that originate from martial arts such as Japanese Jui Jitsu, Karate, Thai Boxing, and Judo, making it a formidable for self defence and ring sport. The club travels to Myanmar annualy to train and compete.

Jubilee Sports Melton Mowbray is the home of Lethwei in the UK and Commonwealth, under the governing bodies ‘British Lethwei Council - BLC’, the ‘International Lethwei Federation - ILF’, and, ‘Myanmar Traditional Boxing Federation - MTBF.

Western boxing is a traditional martial art of England. The art originated as a bare-knuckle no holds barred art with bouts lasting until one man could not carry on. The art became more of a sport as we know it today in 1867 when the Marques of Queensberry created and introduced what we know today as the ‘Queensberry Rules’. At this time gloves were also introduced along with roped boxing rings.
